His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester, Grand Prior of the Order of St John, has been graciously pleased to make the following awards in recognition of their conspicuous acts of bravery performed, at personal risk to themselves, in saving or attempting to save the lives of others.

THE LIFE SAVING MEDAL OF THE ORDER IN SILVER

Sir David Kim HEMPLEMAN-ADAMS, KCVO OBE KStJ DL

Dr Rosalind Anita Jane SMITH, CStJ

On 16 July 2020 Sir David Hempleman-Adams (63) and Dr Rosalind Smith (57) were descending Mont Blanc, France, when they came across a young couple who were suffering the effects of hypothermia and altitude sickness. Despite their own need to descend the mountain quickly due to the deteriorating weather conditions, limited visibility and sub-zero temperatures, Sir David and Dr Smith remained with the couple, assessed their condition and then carefully led them to safety lower down the mountain where they were able to seek medical attention.

THE LIFE SAVING MEDAL OF THE ORDER IN BRONZE

Ryley FERGUSON

On 3 May 2020 Ryley Ferguson (15), without hesitation or thought for his own safety, jumped into the cold water of the Aire and Calder Navigation in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, and rescued a 15-month-old boy who had wandered away from home and slipped into the canal from the opposite bank.
