JOHN MARTIN SCULLY

Honours Forfeiture Committee: Statement regarding John Martin Scully following allegations of crimes of a sexual nature.

The Forfeiture Committee considers recommendations to remove honours from individuals where a recipient has brought the honours system into disrepute. The Forfeiture Committee is not an investigative body and is unable to make a determination of guilt or innocence. Orders of Chivalry are living Orders and individuals cease to be a member when they die, therefore honours can not be removed from individuals now deceased.

John Martin Scully was awarded a MBE in 2002. He died on 21 October 2021. Hertfordshire Police have since confirmed that they had interviewed Mr Scully in relation to allegations made against him. These included rape of a child under the age of 13, and several instances of sexual assaults against children. The investigation was ongoing at the time of his death. The Forfeiture Committee can confirm that had John Martin Scully been convicted of the crimes of which he was accused, forfeiture proceedings would have commenced.
