The Department of Health has made a Statutory Rule entitled "The Human Trafficking and Exploitation (Criminal Justice and Support for Victims) (Independent Guardian) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2025", (S.R. 2025 No. 83) which comes into operation on 9 June 2025.

This rule removes the requirement for five years' post qualifying social work experience for a person to be eligible for appointment as an Independent Guardian and introduces a new eligibility requirement that the person must have completed their post-qualification period of assessed employment (one year).
