WALKING ROUTES – BETHWIN ROAD AREA

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK (CHARGED-FOR PARKING PLACES) (BETHWIN ROAD AREA) ORDER 2025

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK (WAITING RESTRICTIONS) (BETHWIN ROAD AREA) ORDER 2025

1. Southwark Council hereby GIVES NOTICE that on 24 July 2025 it has made the above Orders under sections 6, 45, 46, 49 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The effects of the Orders, to improve accessibility for pedestrians in the Bethwin Road area, are:

(a) in BETHWIN ROAD north-west side opposite No. 59 Bethwin Road within existing Controlled Parking Zone ‘NC’ reduce existing permit-holders’ parking by 4.5 metres (11 metres remain) and replace with 4.5 metres of new ‘at any time’ waiting restrictions (double yellow lines ‘DYLs’);

(b) convert existing ‘timed’ waiting restrictions (single yellow lines) ‘SYLs’ to new ‘DYLs’ (i) in BETHWIN ROAD north-west side opposite its junction with Thompsons Avenue (12 metres), and (ii) in THOMPSONS AVENUE north-east side south-east of its junction with Bethwin Road (36 metres which also accounts for the new kerb-line build-out); and

(c) in THOMPSONS AVENUE north-east side south-east of its junction with Bethwin Road reduce existing ‘SYLs’ by 1 metre to account for a new dropped kerb to allow for access.

Notes: (1) ‘at any time’ means at all hours on every day of the week. (2) All measurements are in metres and are approximate.

3. Copies of the Orders, which will come into force on 28 July 2025, and of all other relevant documents are available for inspection at Highways, Southwark Council, Environment, Sustainability & Leisure, 3rd floor hub 2, 160 Tooley Street, London SE1 2QH, by appointment only. E-mail traffic.orders@southwark.gov.uk or call 077 3132 4742 for booking details.

4. Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order/s, or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order/s may, within six weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.

Dated 24 July 2025
