London Borough of Islington
THE ISLINGTON (MOVING TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS) EXPERIMENTAL TRAFFIC ORDER (NO. 6) 2025
1) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Islington, on 15 August 2025, has made the above-mentioned Orders under Sections 9, 10 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, and of all other powers thereunto enabling.
2) The general effect of the Orders, which will come into effect on 15 September 2025, would be to introduce a new experimental scheme in the vicinity of Newington Green Primary School. This would create a pedestrian and cycle zone (school street), to operate Monday–Friday inclusive between 8.15am and 9.15 am and between 3.00pm and 3.45pm, to prohibit motor vehicles, except ‘SS44’ permit holders, from entering or proceeding in the following roads:
a) Auriga Mews;
b) Mildmay Road, between its junctions with Woodville Road and Newington Green; and
c) Wolsey Road, between its junctions with Mildmay Road and Queen Margaret’s Grove.
3) ‘SS44’ permits allowing vehicles to enter of proceed in the roads or parts of roads listed in item 2(a) will be available to persons whose main place of residence, employment, business or organization is located at an address listed in the Schedule to this Notice, by application to the Council.
4) A copy of the Orders and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Orders are available for inspection. Copies of these documents may be obtained either by emailing environment@islington.gov.uk, by telephoning Environment on 020 7527 2000 or by sending a postal request to Environment, 1 Cottage Road, London N7 8TP. You can arrange an inspection in person by emailing environment@islington.gov.uk or calling 020 7527 2000, citing scheme 8485.
5) The Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the experimental Orders should be continued in force indefinitely by means of permanent Orders made under sections 6, 45, 46 and 49 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Any person may object to the making of the permanent Orders within a period of six months beginning with the day on which the experimental Orders come into force or, if the Orders are varied by another Order or modified pursuant to section 10(2) of the 1984 Act, beginning with the day on which the variation or modification or the latest variation or modification comes into force. Any such objection must be in writing and must state the grounds on which it is made and be sent to Environment, 1 Cottage Road, London N7 8TP. Any objection may be communicated to, or be seen by, other persons who may be affected.
6) Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Orders, or of any provisions contained therein on the grounds that it or they are not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any requirement thereof or any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Orders, may make application for the purpose to the High Court within six weeks from the date on which the Orders are made.
