THE A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST SLIP ROADS) (TRUNKING) ORDER 202[.]
AND
THE A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST SLIP ROADS) (DETRUNKING) ORDER 202[]
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport proposes to make the following Orders:
1. A draft Order under sections 10 and 41 of the Highways Act 1980 directing that the realigned north east facing slip roads to and from the A249 along the routes described in the Schedule to the Order shall become trunk roads from the date when National Highways notifies Kent County Council that the aforementioned trunk roads are open to traffic, and National Highways Limited, as a strategic highways company, will be directed under the Order to become the highway authority for those trunk roads.
2. A draft Order under section 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980 directing that a section of the north east bound slip road to the A249 shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road from the date when National Highways notifies Kent County Council that the aforesaid realigned highways to be trunked in paragraph 1 are open to traffic and Kent County Council shall become the highway authority for it.
COPIES of the draft Orders and the plan referred to in it may be inspected free of charge at all reasonable hours from 27 November 2025 until 9 January 2026 at the offices of National Highways, 5 Eclipse Park, Maidstone, Kent ME14 5LH; the offices of Swale Borough Council, Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne, Kent ME10 3HT; and the offices of Kent County Council, Main Reception, Sessions House, County Hall, Maidstone, Kent ME14 1XQ.
ANY PERSON MAY OBJECT to the making of either, or both, of these Orders not later than 9 January 2026 by writing to the Secretary of State for Transport, at the National Transport Casework Team, PO Box 1393, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE99 5FQ or by email to nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk stating the title of the Order or Orders and the grounds of their objection. In the preparation of an objection and the statement of grounds of objection it should be borne in mind that the substance of any objection or representation may be communicated to other people who may be affected by it.
In submitting an objection or representation it should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be passed to Kent County Council to enable your objection or representation to be considered. If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection or representation and the Secretary of State will copy your representations, with your name and address removed, to Kent County Council, and if there is to be a Public Local Inquiry they will be seen in that form by the public and the Inspector, who may give them less weight as a result. Kent County Council may disclose your objections or representations, with your name and address removed, to other parties acting on its behalf.
