ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 23

PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF CROSSINGS ON CITY ROAD

The London Borough of Islington, in consultation with the chief officer of police, proposes to replace the zebra crossings in the following locations with signal-controlled crossings:

• On City Road, at a point 22m north of the northern kerb line of Epworth Street;

• On City Road, at a point immediately north of its junction with Finsbury Square.

THE ISLINGTON (CHARGED-FOR PARKING PLACES) (AMENDMENT NO. *) ORDER 202*

THE ISLINGTON (FREE PARKING PLACES, LOADING PLACES AND WAITING, LOADING AND STOPPING RESTRICTIONS) (AMENDMENT NO. *) ORDER 202*

1) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Islington proposes to make the above-mentioned Orders under Sections 6, 45, 46, 49 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, and of all other powers thereunto enabling.

2) The general effect of the Orders would be to:

a) introduce bus lanes operating Mon–Sat, 7 am–7 pm, with taxis and cyclists permitted users, at the following locations:

i) on City Road, northbound, from outside No. 4, to opposite the northern kerb line of Epworth Street;

ii) on Finsbury Square (the western arm), northbound, from 7m north of the northern kerb line of Chiswell Street, to 8m south of the common boundary of Nos. 10 and 11 Finsbury Square;

iii) on Finsbury Pavement, northbound, from 6m north of the northern kerb line of Ropemaker Street, to 5 metres north of the common boundary of Nos. 125 and 127 Finsbury Pavement;

b) extend existing ‘No Stopping’ restrictions (as indicated by zig-zag lines):

i) by 3m on the east side of the carriageway, north of the crossing on City Road opposite Bunhill Fields Burial Ground;

ii) by 1.8m on the west side of the carriageway, north of the same crossing;

iii) by 3m on both sides of the carriageway, south of the same crossing;

iv) by 2.1m on the east side of the carriageway, north of the crossing outside No. 12 Finsbury Square;

c) reduce existing ‘No Stopping’ restrictions:

i) by 1.5m on the west side of the carriageway, north of the crossing outside No. 12 Finsbury Square and replace with ‘No Waiting or Loading’ Mon-Sat at Any Time, Sun 12am-6am;

ii) by 3m on the east side of the carriageway, south of the crossing outside No. 12 Finsbury Square and replace with ‘No Waiting or Loading at Any Time.

d) amend the operating hours of the parking place outside Nos. 20-24 City Road to Mon-Sat: 12am-7am; 10am-4pm; 7pm-12am; Sun: 12am-6am, with No Waiting or Loading permitted Mon-Sat: 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm;

e) amend the waiting and loading restrictions outside Nos. 14-18 City Road to ‘No Waiting at Any Time’, with ‘No Loading’ Mon-Sat 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm;

f) introduce a ‘No Loading at Any Time’ restriction on Finsbury Square (northern arm) on the north side of the carriageway, between its junction with Finsbury Square (western arm) and a point 2m east of that junction;

g) introduce a ‘No Loading’ restriction in operation Mon-Sat: 7am-7pm, on Finsbury Square (western arm) on the west side of the carriageway, from a point 7.8 m south to a point 26.7 m south of the common boundary of Nos. 10 and 11;

h) reduce the extent of the taxi rank on Finsbury Pavement by 7.2m at its southern end, replacing this length with a ‘No Waiting or Loading At Any Time’ restriction.

3) A copy of the proposed Orders and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Orders are available for inspection. 4) Any person who wishes to object, or to make other representations about the proposed Orders should send a statement in writing, specifying the grounds on which they are made to Islington Environment, P O Box 2025, PERSHORE, WR10 9BU (quoting reference 8636 or by emailing environment@islington.gov.uk, within the period of twenty-eight days from the date on which this Notice is published.
