LONDON BOROUGH OF BRENT

- CYCLE QUIETWAY 3 JUNCTION IMPROVEMENTS

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Brent (‘the Council’) proposes to introduce various measures in connection with improvements to Quietway 3, in accordance with the provisions of section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and sections 65 and 90A-F of the Highways Act 1980.

2. The location and effect of the proposals would be as follows:

(a) Junction 1 - Anson Road, Kendal Road and Park Avenue North

(i) replace the existing pedestrian refuge in Kendal Road, immediately west of its junction with Park Avenue North/Anson Road, with a parallel zebra pedestrian / cycle crossing (5 metres in width). The zig-zag markings (to prohibit vehicles from stopping in the “controlled area”) would extend westward from the crossing for 18.5 metres and eastward for 5 metres;

(ii) create lengths of “shared use” (pedestrians and cycles) cycle track on the footways on both sides of Kendal Road and the west side of Park Avenue North on the approach to the junction.

(b) Junction 2 - Chatsworth Road, St Paul’s Avenue and Walm Lane

(i) convert the existing zebra crossing in Walm Lane, immediately south of its junction with St Paul’s Avenue / Chatsworth Road to a parallel zebra pedestrian / cycle crossing (8 metres in width). The zig-zag markings would extend southward from the crossing for 16 metres and northward for 13 metres;

(ii) extend the existing raised table on the south-west approach to the zebra crossing by 0.6 metres;

(iii) create lengths of “shared use” (pedestrians and cycles) cycle track on the footways on the south side of Chatsworth Road, the south side of St Paul’s Avenue and both sides of Walm Lane (southern arm) on the approach to the junction.

(c) Junction 3 – Chatsworth Road and Lydford Road

(i) convert the existing zebra crossing in Lydford Road, immediately north of its junction with Chatsworth Road, to a parallel zebra pedestrian / cycle crossing (10.5 metres in width). The zig-zag markings would extend southward from the crossing for 9 metres and northward for 16 metres;

(ii) extend the existing raised table on the north-east approach to the zebra crossing by 6 metres;

(iii) create lengths of “shared use” (pedestrians and cycles) cycle track on the footways on the north side of Chatsworth Road (both arms) and the north-west side of Lydford Road (northern arm) on the approach to the junction.

(d) Junction 4 – Chatsworth Road and Mapesbury Road

(i) replace the existing pedestrian refuge in Mapesbury Road, immediately north of its junction with Chatsworth Road, with a parallel zebra pedestrian / cycle crossing (5 metres in width). The zig-zag markings would extend northward from the crossing for 15 metres and southward for 5 metres;

(ii) create lengths of “shared use” (pedestrians and cycles) cycle track on the footways on the north side of Chatsworth Road (both arms)) on the approach to the junction.

(Please note that all measurements mentioned above are approximate.)
